The Jim Henson Retrospectacle is Here

11 April - Square Eyes Film Foundation

We're getting super excited to welcome a gaggle of Jim Henson's most iconic characters from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock to Wellington, along with their extremely talented performers.

Our Live in Concert performances have already reached capacity, but there's still plenty more to do, see and hear with lots of celebrational, Muppetational fun for all ages getting underway this weekend with our Film Fortnight and our Behind the Seams events.

Muppets, Music and Magic Film Fortnight

Our Film fortnight kicks off with The Muppet Movie (1979) at Embassy Theatre at 1pm on Saturday. This iconic Henson film will be introduced by veteran Muppet performer Dave Goelz and his furry friend The Great Gonzo. After that it’s full-steam ahead with an amazing showcase of Henson films and documentaries from deep within the archives.

We know you're desperate to know which characters are coming...but we can't spill all the beans just yet. Life needs a little mystery, right? You can, however, meet the performers joining us in Wellington and that may give you a clue or two...

In the meantime, if you'd like the chance to rub shoulders with some extremely talented performers, collaborators and characters at some of our film screenings, then here's a few we suggest adding to your itinerary. Advance tickets are currently available for all of these events from Ticketmaster:

Bonnie Erickson, the designer and creator of Miss Piggy, will be at Te Papa from 3.30pm on Saturday 14 April for a puppet meet-and-greet, along with Weta Workshop designers Johnny Fraser-Allen and Ben Hawker. There's no need for tickets, just bring your own puppet creations and come along for the ride.
